Ropes
How to Select the Right Rope
Step One:
Estimate the breaking load required for the particular task. The safe working load of a rope is one sixth of the rope’s breaking load.
Step Two:
Where is the rope going to be used? The answer to this question will decide what type of fibre you require in your rope or twine.
Step Three:
Decide on RopeConstruction: Ropes come in three types
Laid Ropes
Laid ropes are most commonly used and are easily spliced, less expensive than other types and the breaking loads are usually greater for the same diameter.
Braided Ropes
(Man-made fibres only) Braids are more easily handled than laid ropes, and do not kink.
Multiplait Ropes
(Man-made fibres only) These are made in large diameters of 28mm and over and are suited for mooring lines for shipping and fishing boats. Multiplaits like braids, are easily handled and do not kink.
